Genesis 1-1

This Essay discusses the teachings of Genesis and how it affects my world view. Beginning with Genesis and the Natural World, moving on to Human Identity, Human Relationships, and finally Civilization.

Genesis and the Natural World

Genesis teaches us that God created the heavens and the earth, simply with the commands of his voice. For example, God said “Let there be light” and it was. God also said, “Let the land produce living creatures according to their kinds, and so there was. (Genesis 1:1-25). God completely this task within a seven day period, resting on the seventh-day.

Genesis allows me to believe that there’s a power greater than mankind, a power to make something out of nothing (God’s Power). In the beginning the earth was void, and if God had not spoken these things into existence we would not have a world or animals at all. No man has this type of authority therefore, knowing that God’s word has this type of power lets us know that God word is all we need in life.

Genesis and Human Identity

Genesis teaches that God created man his own imagine, in the imagine of God he created him; male and female he created them. (Genesis 1:27) Genesis describes the tree of Life and the Tree of Good and Evil.

Genesis allows me to believe that God created man and woman in his own likeness. So therefore, no one has seen God, but we have some idea on what he looks like, based on our own looks or imagination. It also tells a lot about mankind and how it was corrupted. From the beginning man knew nothing of evil or knew anything as a matter of fact, until the woman (EVE) and the serpent (Devil) came along. This is how human identity came about I believe. If the serpent hadn’t tricked Eve, when the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. (Genesis 3:6) I believe right here was the beginning of identification, and knowing the difference...
