The Way Reality Affects Each One of Us

The book is somehow similar to the “Perks of Being a Wallflower”. Both books focused on telling how much depression has affected on both of the protagonists’ lives namely Holden and Charlie. It is wrapped by emotional pain and agitations felt all throughout without letting anyone know about their problem. It is like feeling that there’s no one out there who cares about them except themselves. Some people tend to over think to the point that they are only exaggerating the sadness that they feel.

The point is, all of us feel pain and all we need is an outlet. It is when we long for someone whom can lend their ears to listen to us with love and care. The pain that Holden feels is the one that all of us can totally relate to. It is the pain caused by a dreadful experience from the past that lets us bind with sadness and discomfort. How can we recover if we feel unloved? How can we move on if there is no one who can pat our back and say that “It’s okay. It’s going to be all right.”? Isn’t it that we only need that one person whom we can always rely to during our struggles? If we are in charge of our own happiness in life, I might disagree a bit with that because in order for us to achieve our own happiness, there is someone who will serve as a key to unlock the happiness inside us. Holden Claufield is a person who longs for intimacy and had a nervous breakdown because of what had happened to his childhood. He views reality as a gloomy and dark world that ruined his innocence. Why? It is because of Allie’s death. This traumatic scene in his head was never forgotten. He was stuck in his reminiscences and was shattered from grief. Life is like a cliff, sometimes we opt to fall down when we give up because we refuse hold on and fight back.
