MANAGEMENT EVALUATION PAPER: PROJECT EVALUATION

Task overview:

My current organization is in the process of completing an evaluation of concession operations for the entire district. We currently hold a mixture of both contracted and internally run concessions. Of this mixture it can be said that approximately 2 of the 9 major facility operations are primarily contracted to companies locally owned. The major outcome of this particular project is to complete an evaluation tracking the past 3-4 years of budget actuals to assist in the decision of what is more profitable for the district. The choice at hand is should we contract out or continue to run internally. This review has been a 6-12 month process with tiers of management involved in the decision process as applicable to their level of management responsibility. It is known that our concession operations are profitable in some key areas whereas it is not profitable in others. Those involved in the process have had the opportunities to see both the successes and not so successful contracted concession operations. In the event that this becomes contracted there are some positions may change or be eliminated.

Strengths and Weakness-Planning:

The major strength of the planning process is that at the beginning of the process the manager in charge wanted everyone to all to be involved in the process. Thus providing transparency to the project at hand and eliminating surprises on the true motives. With this is in mind it led to much more buy-in on completing the needed information. He acknowledged that this was a new process and exhibited “Moral Courage” that even as much as we think out the planning for this project even “the best-thought-out plan is never exactly carried out” (Maidment, 29).
