When I was young adult (18 to be exact) I made some decisions that I consider to be related to the biopsycosocial model. Growing up I was always on the small side (no muscle). I biologically had very little muscle, and as a 18 year old boy this contributed to many stressors at the time. At the time I felt embarrassed and ashamed, and even refrained from certain leisure’s in life such as swimming, wearing shorts, or taking my shirt off in the summertime.

I decided that I wanted to make a change to my current health. I made a decision to add some muscle to my body. I was very motivated and began doing certain exercises everyday. I told myself repeatedly that I would not be ashamed of my body for much longer. This continued for about six months starting in the summer when I was 18. It has since been a common practice, but this was the first time I had ever started this new routine. I was surprised at the results I incurred, I went from having no chest muscles at all, to a noticeable size difference. The same thing happened to my biceps, which before the change there seemed to be just flat and straight arms with nothing there!

The change did change my social life. Believe it or not, it was a major turning point in my life. I went from having very little self esteem, to having much confidence ion a short time. I have been much more comfortable with my life since the change took place. I am more involved in my friendships and started noticing an increase in attention form the girls! I felt really good about myself and still do many years later after the fact.
