Design Trade-Off Approach

With the design of a product design tradeoffs are needed for the factors of price, performance, and scheduling. If the timeline is strict then some areas will need to be adjusted to keep the schedule, as long as customers will still be satisfied, trade-offs of this kind will have consequences that will need to be considered in the course of the design process. If there is a limit to the cost, the items that the designer would normally want or need may not be able to be obtained for this project. A cost limitation means that the designer must make decisions about cutbacks, and the right places for a cutback to occur. Software and network issues are the biggest concerns, if the development phase includes trade-offs, the product might not have the desired functionality when it is initially introduced to the marketplace. Trade-offs on the networking side need to ensure that the bare minimum requirements are still met, regardless of the sacrifices, so that if there was an expansion the company would still be able to upgrade their equipment.

Time limits might be a factor in software development. If a designer tries to incorporate every possible piece of functionality the solution that is developed might not be good quality. If the software development is rushed, bugs or other issues could diminish its performance, making it a not so good experience for users. Performance issues could also present a problem if there is not enough time spent testing to see how the functionality plays out on the network. If the software is not tested properly, date synchronization might not happen often or well enough.
