1. How might cultural, political, or geo-economics challenges affect a global company’s use of the Internet? Give several examples.

The cultural challenges include differences in languages, cultural interests, religions, customs, social attitudes, and differences in work styles and business relationships. The political challenges involve rules regulating and prohibiting the transfer of data across national boundaries, restriction laws, taxes, or the prohibition of imports of hardware and software. They also include local content laws and reciprocal trade agreements. And the geo-economic challenges include dealing with physical distances, telecommunication services, job skills, and differences in cost of living and labor costs.

2. Will the increasing use of the Internet by firms with global business operations change their move toward a transnational business strategy? Explain.

There appears to be no doubt that the increasing use of the internet by businesses with global operations will result in changing their move towards a transnational business strategy. As businesses extend their product offerings into the global marketplace they will have no choice but to develop a transnational business strategy in order to survive.

3. What has been the impact of information technologies on the work relationships, activities, and resources of managers?

IT is a major force for organizational and managerial change. Due to telecommunications networks and PCs, computing power and information resources are now more readily available to managers than before. Managing the information systems of a business is no longer the sole responsibility of specialists. It has now become more so the responsibility of managers.
