Abstract

Media Relations is an important communication function for a business because it allows them to communicate with the media in a professional manner that allows the company to feed information and respond to questions or concerns. The goal of Media Relations for any business or organizations is to establish a positive media relationship with the various media outlets. Through this relationship media relations can help to reduce bad press and be proactive to any issues with the company that have reached the press or have been posted online. This research will outline and analysis how media relations has advanced into globalization. This paper will discuss the major elements and dimensions of media relations and its importance to a business.

1. Introduction

Media Relations is the involvement with different media with the purpose of enlightening the public of a business mission, policies and practices in a positive and credible manner consistently. Media Relations needs to be open and honest communication between a company and the media. Media Relations can shape perceptions of a company and it should also be proactive to news that can hurt a company. Media relations for any company goal should be to get the most out of the media with positive coverage in a manner that the company does not pay for it through normal marketing and advertising such as commercial’s or advertisements in a newspaper. Often time’s individuals will think public relations and media relations are the same which it is not. Media relations is the relationships that a company builds with reporters and journalist; public relations deals with the media and general public. Media relations can be a part of a public relations program however there is a big difference and the media relations part cannot be handled the same as public relations.
