Educational Systems in The Philippines And Korea

Does being educated make a significant difference in someone’s life? We are living in the world where educated people play an important role in making a nation more successful and have greater chance to get better job. In some countries such as Korea and Japan, college degree and even high school diploma separate one’s opportunity and life. Therefore, education is really essential for everyone and is the reason why people strive to find the best way they can provide a suitable and proper learning. Thus, this essay will compare and contrast two different education systems in Korean and the Philippines.

First of all, most schools possess primary school, grade school; high school and post secondary school, and the Philippines and Korea are no exception. Besides, since the last year, the Philippines has started to implement k to 12 (kindergarten through 12th grade) education systems like other countries. However, an interesting difference between two countries is that Korea has a middle school level whereas the levels of schooling in the Philippines are just composed of junior high school and senior high school. Both systems have merits and flaws but still aiming for the same goal which is to generate an advance community.

As the number of civil services and professions tends to hire people who are fluent in English, students in Korea constantly make an effort in learning English whether in school or in academies. Correspondingly, both countries consider English as a compulsory subject, particularly in the Philippines, English is used by teachers. However, Korea has only 5 core subjects taught in the school unlike the Philippines where has 8 core subjects. Moreover, Korea has not much given emphasis on Arts and Physical Education and that is why one can say that the Philippine educational system is much more relaxed compared to Korea where the competition is too high.
