Rules are mandatory in business to keep operations running efficiently. There are disadvantages to operating a business that has guidelines, rules, and regulations; however, there are benefits to this approach as well. In any case, it is necessary to consider the pros and cons of your business rules to regulate whether they generate more problems than answers, or vice versa.

One advantage to business discretion is that they create the logical framework for the way you operate your business. The rule-established approach in business is often seen in the development of network and technological applications that are used to increase business effectiveness and streamlined your operation. The logical framework created by business rules makes it possible for management staff to circumvent having to concern itself with situational ethics or decisions. As an alternative, it will be constrained by its own rules, this makes the decision-making process simpler.

The rigid nature of business rules can also be a disadvantage for business management in that these rules make modifications difficult to implement. When working with a rigid logical framework, the possibility of change becomes difficult due to the fact that the rules are already in place. A few rules may even need to be altered to account for changing realities in the business world. Rigid rules are sometimes an obstruction to this type of change.

The ease of use for workers is a primary advantage for the use of rule-based business processes. Once your workers understand the rules, it is possible for them to act upon that knowledge without necessarily having to process the information and deliberate what decisions need to be made.
