When it comes to a decision making process, critical thinking is a must for any decision that needs to be made the correct way. Assumptions and bias are not a part of critical thinking because they use personal judgment without any hard facts or correct evidence.

I work for a photography company full time five days a week. Each and every day I need to make my own best judgment on photographs because I work in elementary schools. At the schools I set up my studio and work with the children while at school, no parents or guardians are usually there. I think when I take the pictures but I don’t critically think. I get nice pictures but they’re not always liked by the parents or guardians of the children when the photographs come back from the lab. A few weeks after, pictures are returned to the school and parents have a chance to decide if they enjoy the image of their child. If not, I come back to the school for a retake day.

When at the schools I must use critical thinking. The children come back to my camera with their first picture and tell me what mom or dad didn’t like about it. Sometimes I even get notes on the package or a letter. That gives me known facts about what the parents want from their child. They could want anything from a different background to a different image of their child not showing teeth or opening their eyes more. Sometimes the child had a cut on their face for the first picture and the retake picture they are healed for. When they come to my camera I look at the picture and figure out what I didn’t like about it and sometimes I can’t find anything. With critical thinking I need to think about what the other person wants. I take another photograph and show it to the child and the teacher. I ask both if they like it so the parents aren’t assuming (not critically thinking) I am rushing...
