Writing Experience

I am not sure writing is a natural ability for all. I used to think I was a pretty good writer however college level writing has changed my mind and almost convinced me that I would rather do anything but have to write a paper. In the business world however I understand that there will be several memos, emails, reports and professional type of writings that need to be done and I would rather be educated on it then guessing about what and how I should get a message across.

Before I discuss past high school and college teachers I will begin with being a child and writing. As a kid I wrote small stories and some plays. I enjoyed it and felt like I could be creative and felt free to be creative. The older I got the less I enjoyed writing and I believe my creativity went down. After I stopped writing short stories and plays I did not come back to it.

As an adult I do write in a journal. I think even though it is not exactly like writing a paper for school, it is still a type of essay to me. It has helped to keep me thinking on paper and keep some type of flow going. I think writing in a journal has also helped to learn how to express feelings in writing instead of being unsure of how to express myself. The drawback however is that I am very lax in journals and it does not help with grammar and structure for school.

I do not remember much of my English or Literature classes in high school. Looking back I know I enjoyed the classes however the teachers did not challenge me or keep my attention. I did well in the classes only because I enjoyed the content not because I had great teachers. It would have helped to have a specific writing class in high school to prepare me for adult life in the workplace.
