Company History

Samsung, based in South Korea, is one of the world’s largest and most successful conglomerates.  It was founded in 1938 as a trading company and then transitioned into industries such as retail, food processing, textiles, and insurance over the next 30 years.  Although Samsung did not enter the electronics business until the late 1960s, electronics, particularly semiconductors and cell phones, have become the company’s most important source of income.

Samsung’s first electronic product was a black-and-white TV which was first sold domestically in 1972.  The company continued to produce TV’s during the 1970s and also manufactured household appliances such as refrigerators, washing machines, and microwaves.  One of the most important events in Samsung’s electronics area happened during the 1980s.  The company first began producing personal computers in 1983 which paved the way for further development in the electronics sector.  Due to these advances, Samsung was able to produce their first mobile handset in 1991.  Ever since, mobile phones have been one of the most important components of Samsung’s product line.  Today, Samsung’s most popular cell phone is the Galaxy S4.

Product Description

The Samsung Galaxy S4, which was first released on April 26, 2013, is the fastest selling cell phone in Samsung’s history.  It is a smartphone that runs on Google’s Android operating system.  The phone is similar to its predecessor, the Galaxy S III, but contains upgraded hardware and software to take advantage of those upgrades.  One of these hardware upgrades allowed it to be the first phone to support the LTE Advanced mobile network, more commonly known as 4G.  Currently, Samsung has sold over 40 million Galaxy S4s.

Some of the Galaxy S4’s hardware includes a 5 inch touch screen, up to 64 GB of internal storage, and a LTE transceiver, among other components.  The 5 inch screen is a slight improvement from the 4.8 inch screen of the phone’s predecessor....
