TYPE/GENRE: Adventure novel

SOURCE/REFERENCE: Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland (novel)

A BRIEF SUMMARY:

Alice, a little girl who dreams that she is following a white rabbit down a grand hole, discovers herself in a land of wonders. She finds a place called Wonderland, peopled with animals doing many foolish, laughable activities.

In Wonderland, Alice undergoes many thrilling adventures. This being a strange place, Alice makes mistakes. Once she almost drowns in her own tears. She befriends many strange animals like the Duchess, the mad Hatter, the sleepy dormouse and a march hare. They take her around and her association with them makes her realize that these little animals are also like people. They think and act and live like human beings.

The king and queen of Wonderland are kind to Alice, and they try their best to make her stay quite pleasant. Once, because of an error, she is made to face a trial by jury in the court of the Queen of Hearts. She becomes excited when they recite the charges against her, and she calls them a lot of names. The winged animals seated in the court rise in the air and come flying down on her in vengeful mood.

Alice suddenly awakens and discovers that she has been dreaming beside her sister on the river bank where she has fallen asleep.
