Communication and Collaboration Strategy Paper

One of the major issues that face a team is communication. A critical task for team leaders is to is to engage your team in creating, and continuing to review and revise, an effective communication s strategy. The communications strategy that is created should add value to the team rather than create a burden. Too much communication about the wrong issue is just as difficult as too little communication about important issues. Things that should be taken into consideration are:

What, when and how much are we going to communicate?

What media will we use to communicate, class forum, personal e-mails or telephone?

What the particular roles of each teammate in this communication?

It is essential that every team needs people with three different sets of skils. This includes people with technical expertise; people with problem solving and decision making skills; and people with good listening, feedback, and conflict resolution skills. These are people, whose learning styles include visual-spatial, interpersonal, and verbal-linguistic . Team behavior can be notably changed by diverse personality types. Teams that are composed of members who display traits of being sn extrovert, agreeable, conscientious , and emotional stability seem to receive higher ratings in team performance from their instructors. These include those members with the personality types of a thinker, an organizer, and an adventurer (Rogers 2008).

The size of the team can be a determining factor in how effective a team can become overall. The most effective teams are not the ones under four or five as these teams are likely fall short in diversity. Nor will a team over twelve prove to be effective given that such a large group, wirh so much diversity would make it difficult in getting anything done in a timely manner.
