INTEGRATED LEAN AND GREEN

ABSTRACT

The first paper provides the summary of quantitative and qualitative survey of lean manufacturing and environmental performance and their relationship. The second paper provides the most successful lean manufacturers excellence in green manufacturing and their willingness to improve further. The final paper speaks about the implementation of the suggestion made by second paper in a small scale industry which leaded to their success.

INTRODUCTION

As the global competition and product variety increases, the need of lean manufacturing to eliminate waste is ever increasing. Also the pollution in any form also is becoming a threat. Hence there is lots of scope in improving the standards of both of them. The integrated lean and green is a combined effect of the two and the need gets increasing.

Article 1 proposes two hypothesis one that the lean manufacturing practices helps in improving resource efficiency. The other hypothesis as the lean practices tends to have higher emissions. Both quantitative and qualitative analysis was done in this paper. I would like to know about the survey results of the companies older than ten years. Article 2 speaks about survey results of lean and green manufacturing in companies recognized by Shingo and compares with the normal manufacturing companies. I would like to know about the aspects of lean and green manufacturing in successful companies versus manufacturing plants. Article 3 tells about the three case studies which were done in a small manufacturing facility based on the recommendations by article 2. I want to know about the success of the suggestions of article 2 if implemented practically.
