My first article is titled Newt Gingrich Decries ‘Ghetto’ Nature of Bilingual Education this article focuses both on bilingualism in the government and education. Mr. Gingrich is opposed to bilingualism in our governmental procedures and within our education. Mr. Gingrich states in this article that English should be the official language in this country and we should not be required to print voting in ballots in any other language. Mr. Gingrich argues that for a person to receive citizenship in this country a person is required to pass a test on American history in English, so if a person must do this to receive citizenship than why do we have to print ballots in any other language.

My second article Bilingual Politics- Should Immigrants Be Allowed to Vote? focuses on opinions about allowing immigrants to vote in this country. The author Wendy Pan, who is opposed to bilingualism in politics, argues that allowing people who have not yet received citizenship in this country to vote will cause “mass confusion” within our voting system. Her opinion is that if we allow Bilingual Politics we are giving the impression that we will allow illegal immigrants the right to vote which could change our laws to favor the illegal’s.

My third article titled An Opinion on Bilingual Education focuses on the benefits of allowing bilingualism in our schools curriculum. The author Stephen Pollard argues that we should allow bilingual education because it will teach the people about diversity amongst different cultures. Mr. Pollard suggests that people who oppose bilingualism have a fear that it will “ un-Americanize” our society. He also states that it will be more difficult for a non-English speaking person to learn if they are abruptly thrown into all English speaking classes.
