Evolving Workplace Technologies

Technology has evolved into one of the world’s biggest ways to communicate. The world used to communicate by telegraphs, written letters, word of mouth, and sometimes a man on horseback would come and tell the message. Today we have wireless phones for texting (and a whole lot more), computers (e-mails), faxes, webcams, conference calls, and the list goes on. This research paper will help the reader explore: constant changes in technology, how the younger worker today has an advantage over the older workers, and upskilling workers.

The business will need to stay updated with the new technologies so that their company can stay competitive with other companies. Older employees should be trained to use the evolving technology so they can also stay competitive with their jobs. Even though face-to-face communication is still the best way to communicate, evolving technology will help an organization to stay competitive.

Business Technology and Youth

Youth today have the advantage of growing up with technology. I- Phones, Tablets, I- Pods, and the list goes on. The youth are being trained for future communications in the workplace, and they do not even know their being trained. Skills are also evolving because of technology. Managers have their jobs cut out for them trying to keep employees up-to-date with the ever changing technology. The youth knows all about the changes in technology, “which can give an older employee without knowledge competition” (Kunes, Nat, 2013, p. 298). “Those that understand the skills the millennial brings to the workplace, and adjust to playing to their strengths, will reap the rewards in the emerging knowledge economy” (Leyland, 2006). Rewards are plenty when any company keeps up-dated and competitive.

Upskilling Workers
