Introduction
In any company, organization is key to the success of the company. Organizational structure can make the goals of the company come at ease. Organization is not just the structure of the company, it is also how the company uses the four functions of management. The four functions of management include planning, organizing, leading, and controlling. Planning is one part of the four functions of management that plays a big role in the success of any company. Planning by definition is “the act or process of making a plan”. Planning is part of knowing what a business is for, what the goals are, and what keeps the business in motion. Possessing organization within the structure eases the chaos and produces stress free environments. “Organizing activities include attracting people to the organization, specifying job responsibilities, grouping jobs into work units, marshaling and allocating resources, and creating conditions so that people and things work together to achieve maximum success” (Bateman and Snell, 2011). This happens at every level in an organization. Leading and controlling are the other functions of management, each with its own vital importance to the success of the organization.
Organizational Structure
At Fed Ex each division works and specializes in their departments. They also manage their own department as if it were its own entity, although still each holding the core values of Fed Ex name. Fed Ex Express was founded in 1971, and the Fed Ex Corporation was not created until 1998. In 2000, the business became Fed Ex Corporation. The Fed Ex Corporation “provides customers and businesses worldwide with a broad portfolio of transportation, e-commerce and business services.” (Fedex.com/fedex-overview).
