Homework questions chapter 3

3-1 What did Wayne do wrong?

In the US culture is normal to ask private questions to someone you just met. It is completely normal, and helps you understand better that person. But in countries like France, private life questions are not asked until you have a stronger relationship with that person.

3-3 What did he do wrong?

In Latin Cultures people are usually very friendly, and loving. Every time you meet someone, you give him/her a kiss, handshakes and a hug. Stan did not say Hi to each of the guests, and that’s why they got upset. You have to personally, go to each person, say Hi, and tell them you are glad they came, and just let them know that you are very excited to be with them and be part of their culture.

3-5 What was Betty's problem?

Betty’s problem was that her French wasn’t good enough to have a full conversation with an important businessman. When you go to other countries, especially France, people want you to know their language and their culture. Betty should have practice more her French before flying to France to do business. Not knowing their language or their culture can destroy any chance of business.

3-6 How can you explain this unanticipated poor response at the trade show?

Ted’s trade show did not go well, because in China baseball hats are not use, as much, as in the US. A few people stop in his exhibit because they did not like the fact that Ted decorated very American, and he did not try to make it look more like the Chinese Culture.
