In order to determine the size, potential and the characteristics of the market a market re-search must be conducted. This should be done before producing any products or services. By conducting market research business can determine what type of product and services consumers would like. This paper will discuss the history of Kudler Fine Foods, the importance of market-ing research and competitive intelligence as well as an analysis of Kudler Fine Foods marketing strategy and tactics.

History

Kathy Kudler was the vice president of marketing for a defense contractor. Due to her interest in cooking gourmet meals she wanted to create a business that specialized in providing these gourmet meals to others. Once she developed a business plan and obtained financing she opened the first Kudler Fine Foods shop in La Jolla on June 18, 1998. The store was a hit, within 9 months of opening they had already made enough money to be at their break even point and turned up revenue during their first year of opening. Kudler Fine Foods would end up opening 2 more stores in 2000 and 2003, one in Del Mar and another in Encinitas. Now they have various locations across the country. (Kudler Fine Foods Portal, 2014)
