Abstract

Motivation and job satisfaction within a workplace directly affect the organization in many ways. As we all know, “being motivated at work often makes it a more attractive experience and it can increase one’s enjoyment, learning, and effectiveness” (Berman, 213, p. 215). Public administrators can use tools such as rewards, employee development and training programs to inspire workers to reach their potential. In this changing environment in the public sectors, motivation in the workplace exude high levels factors that affect job satisfaction. It is in the best interest of the department to create an environment where employees are motivate and morale is enhanced which will maximize the department’s overall goals. I will review four articles about effects of workplace motivation affecting job performance and satisfaction that results in career decisions.

Workplace Motivation Affecting Job Satisfaction

“Motivation is defined as the drive or energy that compels people to act, with energy and persistence, toward some goal” (Berman, 2013, p. 215). Motivation varies between individuals because different individuals have different needs, drives, and goals, so strategies that treat individuals in a one-size-fits-all way or that individuals are similarly motivated are not effective. We can all agree that motivation plays a huge role in any organization. It is in the best interest of the department to create an environment where employees are motivate and morale is enhanced which will maximize the department’s overall goals. I will review four articles about effects of workplace motivation affecting job performance and job satisfaction that results in career decisions.
