U.S. Report Describes Worsening Human Rights in Iran and China

This is relevant to the studies in Government because it is explains the human rights problems that Iran has. This is illustrated in the quotation “In a toughly worded analysis, the department cited killings of election protesters and acts of politically motivated torture, beatings and rape. ‘An already poor human rights situation rapidly deteriorated after the June elections,’ said Michael Posner, assistant secretary for democracy, human rights, and labor, as the department released its overview of human rights around the world in 2009. ‘At least 45 people were killed in clashes,’ he said.” By the other listing the numerous examples of violated human rights this conveys the issues that the Iranian government has to take care of. This quotation also references the election “An already poor human rights situation rapidly deteriorated after the June elections”. Although the election was less than a year ago the administration needs to come up with a plan to guide Iran into a new set of human rights to insure the safety for its citizens.

The implications of the news on the government that might be affected are negative because its providing negative examples of the current governments stand on human rights. An example in the article includes “At a time of heavy international pressure on Iran, the State Department said on Thursday that the human rights situation there had “degenerated” since the disputed presidential election last year.” the word in quotation “degenerated” illustrates the government loosing momentum on their human rights policy. This could issue an overall bad effect on the Iranian government for its neglect for an important part of the countries law and policy, human rights.
