Detecting Media Bias
Since I reside in Kissimmee, Florida which is about 30 miles from Orlando, I choose to write about a story that took over the news for over a year couple of years ago. Making critical evaluation is essential to this story and to understanding the underlying facts from media. The Trayvon Martin & George Zimmerman case was well known issue here in Florida and around the country. Many news stations here in the Orlando area displayed Trayvon Martin as an innocent teenager and George Zimmerman as a ruthless individual. The media in my opinion were concerned with pointing a finger at both individuals involved and the Sanford police department and not the facts; it seemed like every news station was trying to look for the facts of story, but promoting Zimmerman like a prejudiced killer. I believe the Media used bias to depict each individual when it came to Trayvon and Zimmerman. Depending on the news station the media can make anyone seem like the villain when it comes to children, the question to ask ourselves should be is this fair? There has been so much inaccurate information in the news media who can keep track. Some of the assumption and misleading information; which was first reported was unbelievable. Some of the information was misleading as to the accuracy in the event of the shooting.
I believe reading any media story or reading an article is essential, but if the writer or media don’t gather enough information than the news article or information is invalid, and cannot be considered as facts. I also think most individuals don’t read critically enough therefore they do not realize that not everything is the truth; the truth is whatever sounds reasonable. So it is in my opinion, the media will entertain, post valid information from time to time, but not all the information from the media will always be true and it’s up to individual to read the article or...
