The tainted milk scandal that was uncovered in 2008 trigger off an unprecedented discussion regarding business ethics and social responsibility of organization in china. In this reflective essay, the author will apply stakeholder theories and CSR model to connect it to this case and the discussion and comparison of what this company should do in practice and what this company has done in practice will be given. The gap between the comparisons will be the start point for author to make the suggestions on how to turn the CSR concepts that described in the literature into applying this case.

There are internal and external stakeholders who should be considered by Sanlu Company. Internal stakeholders include shareholders and employees who are the main drivers for the development of the organization. External stakeholders compose of customer, supplier, local community, government and general public who are the basis for the existence of the organization. Be harmonious with each party will at least not hinder organization’ legitimacy statues. However, Sanlu company’ behaviour and action not only destroy its legitimacy power to operate also lead to serious social problems. The obvious victims are babies who suffered from death and kidney failure due to the contamination of melamine in the milk powder, of course their families are taking their sorrow. And employees faced with unemployment also their families are impacted by that. Supplier in this case farmer is also suffered from loss. Shareholders lost their money that invested in the organization. Also local government had less tax received to serve the local communities. The...
