The Hollywood Canteen was created by Bette Davis, John Garfield and Jules Stein. The Canteen was open from October 3, 1942 and November 22, 1945 and was located at 1451 Cahuenga Boulevard in Hollywood. This Canteen was a club that offered food and entertainment to soldiers from the U.S. or from countries allied with the U.S. The admission only required the soldiers in uniform and everything in the club was free. Famous celebrities ranging from singers, writers, hair-stylists, etc… volunteered to be the staff of the club performing for entertainment and also helping to waitress tables, clean, cook and more.
