Reflection of Racial Discrimination

Racial discrimination is letting the color of a person’s skin or race to become an influence whether to hire, promote, or employee to receive other benefits. This tends to affect minority individuals who feel they have been discriminated against in favor of Caucasian individuals. Racial Discrimination is happens almost on a daily basis in our community, family or workplace (Wiley, 2014).

My brother enlisted in the Army when I was 17 years old and met an African American man that would become his best friend. The two of them came to our house on leave after they completed basic training. It was a great time and enjoyed having both of them home, it seemed like he was part of our family. We all went to a dance at the park and my sister and I were called “N lover”. My brother and Reeves decided it was time for us girls to go home since we were being disrespected so badly. The next day at school, one of the guys that had called us “N lover” had a black eye. Also, my mother’s best friend came to the house to visit and when she found out that there was an African American in our house, she refused to come in and stated she would come back another time. My mother’s response to her was that if she could not accept who was in her home she did not have to come back.

Cedric is a young, African American gentle man that I hired several months that is very outgoing and friendly with everyone he comes into contact with. He is very muscular and is able to communicate in with the patients better than most of the other staff. He appears to have ability to calm patients when there is chaos and has their respect. He also spent time in prison for a crime he committed several years ago. He has said many times, he was given a second chance and came to work at our facility because he wants to give back.
