Safety Management

Introduction:

As a citizen, it is our responsibility to maintain a safe and healthy environment. Where we can relax and work with no worries but honestly, we can’t avoid hazards and risks in such places. Sometimes we are wondering in how we can avoid such things. For us to know the answer, we must know and understand health and safe precautions so that we can protect ourselves and avoid these hazards and risks in our daily lives. Learning safety management can help us prevent hazardous situations and learn how to control it.

Some of the government officials or even professionals want their people to be on a safety place. Some are making campaigns in order to remind people about the consequences of being reckless and unhealthy. We must have responsibility to ourselves in order to help everyone achieve safety and healthy environment.

Case Study 1:

A safety and health manager receives three suggestions from three different operating personnel as follows:

1. Install a drain to remove water that occasionally collects around the die-casting area.

2. Post a warning sign that advises forklift truck drivers to slow down.

3. Improve sanitation by cleaning the rest room more frequently.

Question:

There is a safety or health rationale for the correction of all three of these problems. Should they be corrected?

Answer:

1. Installing a drain is a good idea so it should not be corrected because drain is useful in every household. Some of the drains are useful and some of them are not. If sinks, shower rooms and toilet rooms have no drains. There will be a water overflow.

2. Posting a warning sign for reminding drivers is good, it should not be corrected but some people tend to break rules and ignore signs like weight restrictions and speed limits. Safety signs must be used whenever a hazard or danger cannot be avoided adequately or reduced in another way.  Before installing safety signs an employer...
