Issues with ethics are a constant in the health care industry. Distinguishing between what is legally right and what is ethical is not an easy task. Problems occur from a medical professional when the privacy of a patient is violated and HIPAA laws are broken. Organizational ethics is becoming a regular phrase when discussing our current health system. There are many areas that are now being highlighted as becoming an issue with ethics and value conflicts. Organizational, individual, and professional differences are noticed when administrators and managers try to come up with ways to put into action organizational goals without compromising someone’s personal and professional values.

When it comes to the administrative health care setting there can an ongoing presence of issues regarding ethics in everyday activities. As a health care administrator you have several responsibilities, self, organization, the employees who provide services and to the clientele that the organization serves. With a surge of information systems the ethical issue that continues to be a problem for administration is confidentiality of information. Meaning that private, personal, and privileged information is being compromised and unprotected. For the administrator in a health care setting it extends beyond a patient’s medical information to an even wider scope of information systems that surround the organization as a business and a workplace.

Managing confidential information requires the knowledge, awareness, and decision making skills to make ethical decisions. It is important for administrators to know the importance of managing this information ethically, increasing access to education and the discussion of these issues to avoid them.
