Educational attainment in the United State varies by several demographic characteristics, including gender. According to the graph below, the proportions of women and men in each education level are approximately equal with the disparity is just about 1-3%. This even allocation proves that in a democratic country like the United States, gender equality is concerned in every aspect of life; educational chances are given equally to everyone, regardless of genders. The government and society create the opportunity to fully approach with the education system at all levels for both male and female, which is not commonly seen in Eastern countries, especially in developing ones where women are still raised up to be a wife, a mother and a housewife in people’s mind, rather than another human being needing to be nurtured to fully development.

However, there are still differences between the education attainments of the two genders. The data also show a higher percentage of male dropouts at compulsory education (14%) compared to the percentage of female dropout (13%). Male dropouts cited that dissatisfaction with school and a desire to prove themselves by entering the labor force at young age as key factors in their decision to leave high school early. On the contrary, when it comes to higher education level – the undergraduate study, women tend to drop out in a larger percentage compared to men. It shows form the percentage of people who attend college without finishing (no degree) for female is 20%, but just only 19% for male. The main reason is the wrong career orientation of female while male is more determined in choosing the direction for their lives.
