Introduction:

Meter reading is essential job which has to be done monthly and for this purpose the meter reader has to gather the meter reading from every single meter. With rising energy costs there is an increased need to identify utility usage and waste. We have to take steps in reducing consumption through a remote management Automatic Meter Reading solution.

To make this job effortless we are designing an Automatic Gas Meter Reading system which will increase efficiency and reduce cost. It remotely reads customer meters and then transfers the data into the billing system. This will reduce the need for meter readers to manually gather utility meter readings each month. It will as a way to improve customer service, especially in areas with fenced yards, landscaping and other issues that make accessing meters difficult or unsafe.

Objective:

The traditional utility meter displays energy usage as an accumulation of counts presented to a display, which is used to calculate the monthly bill. It has applications for domestic, commercial and industrial applications.

The objective of the Automatic Gas Meter Reading system is to provide daily meter reads, which has the potential to show customers a true picture of their usage so they can conserve and better manage their utilities bill. The system will help us achieve these goals. Through the reduced need for on-site manual meter readings and other efficiencies, the system has paid for itself within about 5 years in developed countries. The major goals of AGMR system are listed below:

❖ Improved customer service, including:

➢ Minimizing the need to access property to read meters.

➢ Call resolution improvement – billing calls will be handled more quickly due to availability of more frequent meter readings.

❖ Controlled meter reading costs.

❖ A reduction in operational costs that will save money.
