Communication and Collaboration in the Group

It is not always easy to work together in a team to finish a task with all of our own hectic lives, but the outcome is can be very rewarding. Each group member needs to pay attention to the other group members' personalities and different learning styles, so that we respect where each other are coming from. If each member of the group pays attention to each person and understands the different types of learning styles and personalities, they can come up with a plan that will help them collaborate with each other if they are able to communicate effectively.

When I did the Multiple Pathways to Learning and the Personality Spectrum assessments I found that I have an Interpersonal learning style and that my most dominant personality type is a thinker. Just knowing this information will help me become a more active learner and will help me perfect my skills that match my learning type and personality so that I can become a very successful student.

Three Learning Styles

To effectively communicate with others in a group you must definitely know what works well in learning situations for them. According to Carter, Bishop, and Kravits (2007) learning styles include the Verbal-Linguistic, Logical-Mathematical, and Interpersonal learning styles. Dominant Verbal-Linguistic style learner is likely to “remember terms easily” as well as having a talent for “understanding syntax and word meaning,” and they like “explaining, teaching, learning, [and] using humor” (Carter, Bishop, & Kravits, 2007). If this person were in my group, the best way to communicate with them would be to be relaxed and keep a sense of humor to help with the communicating and studying. Because this person is strong at understanding sentence structure, word meanings, and grammar, I would ask them to help me if I was struggling with a particular assignment.
