Chick-Fil-A History

Chick-Fil-A was started back in 1946 by a man named Truett Cathy. At the time, the restaurant was a small diner called Dwarf Grill that was opened in Hapeville, Georgia. In the early 1960’s, Mr. Cathy founded Chick-Fil-A Inc. He was the first to start opening his business in shopping malls; the first store being opened in Atlanta in 1967. Fast forward to today, and you are looking at the, “…second largest quick-service chicken restaurant chain in the United States, with over 1,700 locations in 39 states and Washington, D.C.” ("Company fact sheet”, n.d.)

Chick-Fil-A Mission Statement

The mission statement of Chick-Fil-A is very simple: “” Be America's best quick-service restaurant.” (Farfan, n.d.) This mission statement is much like any other restaurant chain. What makes them slightly different is their Corporate Purpose. This Corporate Purpose states, “"To glorify God by being a faithful steward of all that is entrusted to us. To have a positive influence on all who come in contact with Chick-fil-A.” (Farfan, n.d.) This statement, in my opinion, really shows the companies values and true motto. It is what sets them apart from other restaurant chains and shows the world that they aren’t meant to be seen the same as a McDonald’s or Wendy’s.

Organizational Strengths

In my opinion, this company has many things about it that can either be strength or a weakness; it just depends on how you look at it. For me, two things that this company does really stand out and make them stronger than the rest. First of all, Chick-Fil-A is not open on Sunday’s. You don’t have to look far to find out why that is; the company isn’t shy about stating it over and over again.
