Rationalization is used within organizations to accomplish and regulate their companies in the best possible way to achieve an efficient way of working. This restructuring could lead to a growth or drop in company size, and even modification of policy. However, as rationalization may have its upsides to increasing efficiency within work force, it also has its disadvantages. The primary problem of controlling a growing business is not just about cutting costs and the increase of efficiency, but also the management of staff along with many other issues to deal with. As small organizations with a small group of workers, owners will know each and ever staff personally, however this becomes a different matter once the organization grows in size, and may end up becoming difficult to manage all employees.

Ford is famous for manufacturing of cars, the Ford Motor Company, till this day is still very well known and a successful Company. One of the first inventions that Ford fulfilled was the fitting of gravity slides that enabled the movement of parts from one place to the next. Otherwise known as the assembly line. This broke down the job into steps, which made it easier to get the job done quicker and more efficiently. The assembly line is the prime approach of manufacturing in today’s industry. Till now we can see qualities of Fordism being used in organizations such as McDonalds. An example of this would be when making the food, as each member of staff has one specific role such as with the chips – one member of staff will put them in the fryer whilst another will place them in the box, this will essentially be saving time. Although this may be cutting costs and saving time. There are disadvantages of the assembly line in the employer’s perspective. As it requires little training and the work is generally repetitive and tedious, which effectively needs no mental stimulation critical.
