What are the four types of essay organization discussed in the readings? What characteristics makes these essays expository? The four types of essay organization is topic, time order, space order, and informative process. Topic organization is when an essay is organized in a formal, logical manner. Time order is an essay that is organized in a sequential, or chronological order from one time period to another. Space order organization is when an essay has a spatial organization of ideas. Informative process organization is when an essay involves a step-by-step process.

I read the article “How to Succeed as an Online Student” It had the characteristics of an expository essay such as a defined and narrow thesis in the introduction. It also presented the information in a fair, nonbiased manner, and gave facts and supporting examples. After reading this article by Stephen Gatlin I felt I had a better understanding of ways to become a successful online student.

I also read the article “Farthest, Faintest Solar System Objects Found Beyond Neptune” by NASA. The characteristics that this article had that made it expository was a defined and narrow thesis in the first paragraph of the essay, as well as facts, evidence and statistics that supported the topic of the essay.

Space order is an organization style that organizes essay information by location of the people, places, or things being referred to. This is different from the time order organization style because the time order style organizes information in chronological or sequential order giving specific dates and times for information being referred to. Both of those types of organizational methods differ from the informative process organizational method. The informative process style usually gives information in a step by step process.
