I strongly believe that ethics and corporate social responsibility within a company is of the upmost important elements within the business. Ethics can have many different meanings and every single person has a different opinion on what ethics means to them. There are three important principles that I want to apply to my future and to always consider when choosing a company to work for. These three principles are:
* Code of conduct- establishes specific ethics guidelines.
* Giving back to the community.
* Being socially responsible to the employee.
I had the recent opportunity to visit Radio Systems, Inc. located here in Knoxville, TN. This company has definitely established a code of conduct and has set specific ethics guidelines to follow daily. Radio Systems has a very specific culture within the company and it would certainly be somewhere I would want to work. While sitting in the lounge, waiting on the manager I needed to talk to, over 15 people passed me. There was not one single person that passed me without greeting me with a smile and speaking to me, wondering if there was anything they could help me with. Not only was the staff the friendliest group of people I have ever met, you can tell that ethics and values are their #1 priority. An example of this: each room that you walk into had a big board with their values and ethic outlines in BIG, BOLD, UNDERLINED letters. Lastly, every employee’s business card has their values listed on the back of the card. This is another example of how this company shows that their ethical beliefs are extremely important to them and is what makes their business grow every day.
In regards to corporate social responsibility, I firmly believe that every company should give back to their community. I think that it says so much about what a company stands for and what they believe in. Whole Foods is a great example of this.
