Synopsis

The delivery of healthcare sevice is regulated and controlled by the law and the legal system to some extent as well as the ethical priciples. This article will analyse the relevant legal, professional and ethical issues within the case of Mr. R and some recommendation will be given in order to improve the quality of care and avoid the conflicts between patients and health professionals. These analysis of the relevant issues in this incident is based on current literature, feedbacks from subject coordinator and dialogue with peers since researchers specially studying healthcare workers have identified the importance of support from coworkers particularly peers and supervisors.

Introduction

The provision of patients care by all health professionals is based on a framework of legal principles and legislative provisions which regulate and determine the standard of care to be delivered and the rights and obligations of both the providers and the recipients of the care (Forrester & Griffiths 2010). Moreover, the four bioethical principles including autonomy, non-maleficence, beneficence and justice are often a guide to decision-making among health professionals (Kerridge & Lowe 2005; Brown et al. 2004). Thus, a clinical case involving legal, professional and ethical issues will be described and determine a range of possible and appropriate solutions for this event using the ethical decision making framework, literature and recommendations from my colleagues and subject coordinator.
