United Refrigeration is a company specializing in refrigeration, heating and air conditioning parts and equipment with over 290 locations. The corporation office is located in Philadelphia, PA and is tasked with handling all Human Resource functions for all 290 locations. The challenge is this is with well over 800 employees company wide, the corporate office struggles to timely address HR related issues while performing time sensitive tasks such as payroll and open enrollment. Many times, employees reaching out to corporate with questions are left to wait on a response.
The idea of HR support in United Refrigeration locations is a possible answer to this challenge. The locations that have a total number of employees at 80 or above should have HR presence at the locations. Those locations with less than 80 employees will have their HR functions handle by Corporate. A trial of this type of HR presence should be conducted to see if the HR support will be beneficial before staffing all locations with HR. In selecting a candidate for this trial, one should choose the type of HR presence that is needed to fill this position.
This role will not have any supervisory responsibilities and will report to the location Managers and the Human Resource Manager located in the corporate office. The best fit for this type of position is a Human Resources Generalist. A Generalist will be able to handle various types of HR related issues, while an HR Specialist usually specializes in a specific area of Human Resources. The Generalist should be able to minimize employees need to reach out to the corporate office because their presence is onsite.
