Sony HVR-HD1000

If you’re one of those people who wants to make money in the film business, you’ll need equipment that can produce images and sound of sufficient quality. The first, and most important, tool for getting images from the world into a deliverable form is a video camera. The world of digital video is complicated and confusing, and choosing an appropriate camera that fits your budget is not an easy task. I am one of those people, and so I took a closer look at the available options.

In today’s market, video cameras are sold for three types of users: home users, who need a easy way to capture home memories and family events, advanced amateurs or ‘prosumers’, who need a few extra features in order to shoot events such as sports and weddings, and true professionals, from independent filmmakers to television and web content produces who require broadcast-ready high quality video. As an amateur videographer who has entered the world of professional production, I am quickly discovering just how important the quality and features of my equipment are. I am starting to bridge the gap from hobby work, which did not provide income to justify spending thousands for each piece of equipment, to professional work, which is beginning to provide the necessary income. Without question, I’m at the point where in order to satisfy my customers, I need equipment that can produce exceptional images and sound quality.

As I began to shop for a higher quality camera, I realized that it must satisfy five different criteria. First, and most important, is image quality. Following image quality are price, size, integration with accessories, and focusing capabilities. While researching cameras, I compared them directly with my old camera, a Sony HDR-HC9 that would fit into the “prosumer” category. The camera that caught my eye was a Sony camera that was first introduced in 2007, called the HVR-HD1000.
