I feel that my past educational experiences have prepared me in many ways for college. In high school, one of the most valuable things I learned was time management. I learned how to prioritize my homework, along with sports, extra-curricular activities, my social life, and work. By learning how to manage these successfully, I started feeling more in control of my life. It has helped to alleviate my stress and anxiety. By prioritizing my work first and focusing on what’s most important, I am able to be more successful as a student. Time management is very important, not only in high school but also in college. It can be very difficult trying to manage varying classes, heavy course loads, work schedules and other time commitments. Time management has prepared me to be a successful member of the East Carolina community that can efficiently be involved in campus life and community. Starting out my freshman year of high school everything was new to me. I was so overwhelmed with everything that was happening with the transition from middle school to high school. I knew that Jack Britt High School offered many clubs and sports to join, but I was so stressed about not being able to fully devote myself to my school work that I never got the chance to be a part of anything my first year. It wasn't until later on that I started to get more comfortable with life as a high school student and decided to get more involved in my school. I knew that high school was a place where you start to learn who you are and what you like before you go off to college and pursue what you want to be. I was interested in finding clubs that would help me to determine my career path. I decided to look at Environmental, Rush, Yearbook, and Key Club since they were things I already enjoyed.
