When someone contemplates what it they believe in, in terms of a higher power this is your personal belief system. This belief system consists of what they have been taught, such as lifelong experiences and what they have learned throughout the course of your life. Your beliefs may change and at times may be in question to something else you learned. What defines you is your resolve in these beliefs are and how important you follow your faith. Each of us have our own personal views and opinions, but we cannot mitigate those of someone else. We must learn how to be accepting and respectful of opinions that are not similar to those of our own. The main thing is we must learn is how to respect the religious viewpoint of everyone.

Everyones initial introduction to religion is from a family experience. We are introduced to the views and opinions of the families’ elders. Considering this is a shared family experience, it is often not questioned and the entire family participates. Most adults will join the religious denomination the family has historically chosen. What we don’t do is analyze what we as individuals believe in a religion should incorporate to conform to our personal beliefs. There will always be points of reference about a religion that we disagree with and points of reference we agree with. This will hold true no matter what religion we are discussing even ones that we wouldn’t label ourselves as a member.

To be qualified as a religion there are components that the belief system must have to be a uniformed and recognized religion. What is a religion, “A system of belief that involves worship of a God or Gods, prayer, ritual, and a moral code” (Molloy, 2010. p. 2). To have a religion the definition indicates that worshipping of a God is required, but I think even being an atheist is a religion as they all share a common belief.
