Leader/Follower Project
"Leadership is the art of getting someone else to do something you want done because he wants to do it." – Dwight D. Eisenhower. “Leaders set the direction and vision to help themselves and others. An effective leader is someone who does”:
1. Creates a vision
2. Motivates and inspires
3. Delivers the vision
4. Coaches and builds a team

When leaders have a clear vision, they must make it appealing and persuasive. Leaders can encourage followers with stories that resonate. The followers must be able to see and understand the vision. Leaders must get followers to assist in delivering that vision. Leaders need to keep followers motivated; one way to accomplish this is with the expectancy theory. Expectancy theory is when incentives are rewarded for good results. The followers need to believe in the leaders; it is important that the leaders are credible and have expert power. Leaders generally are charismatic which will keep people interested in the vision ahead. Followers need to be aligned to the leader’s mission and value so the task can be accomplished if the leader cannot fulfill their duties. Leadership is about teamwork; if the team works together on the specific task and collaborates all ideas it will lead to a successful result.
The original project I had planned to do was a Phi Mu Delta (PMD) Halloween festival on October 31st, 2010. I had an interest in this project for several reasons. First, I am in a sorority and PMD is a fraternity on campus and it is good to support others in Greek Life. Secondly, during my freshman year I was in an organization called G.O.L.D (Generating Opportunities for Leadership Development) and on Halloween we would pass out candy to neighborhood children and turn Cumberland Hall into a haunted house.
