American Red Cross: Organizational Behavior and Communication
Organizational culture provides the understanding of the direction of a company. A clear understanding of the organizational culture provides employees structure and stability within the organization. Communication of these “acceptable behaviors” within the organizational structure assists in building a strong viable culture within which the employees can function and have a more enjoyable work experience.
Philosophy
American Red Cross is a volunteer organization providing disaster relief to victims, and help people prevent and prepare for emergencies. This is done through neutrality to race, creed, or religion. Providing relief to victims of disasters is the central goal of the American Red Cross.
Vision, Mission Statement
Quoting directly from American Red Cross’ website, “The American Red Cross, a humanitarian organization led by volunteers and guided by its Congressional Charter and the Fundamental Principles of the International Red Cross Movement, will provide relief to victims of disaster and help people prevent, prepare for, and respond to emergencies” (About the Red Cross, 2010). The fundamental principles of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement simply state humanity, impartiality, neutrality, independence, voluntary service, unity, and universality. These principles show that the Red Cross does not take sides with any political opinions, national policies, race, religious, class, or other issues.
Organizational Culture
