Why do we want to be Moral?

Moral is related to what is right or wrong. Consider the statement “She is a very moral person who acts correctly all the time, she never steals or lies. As we read this statement we might think that the person is moral if he hasn’t done anything wrong and has been a very good person. We judge people if he is moral or immoral base on his right or wrong doing. The borderline between right or wrong is hard to conclude. We should also look, identify and analyze on why people want to be moral. Self-interest, Divine Command and Common Interest could be the reasons behind it.

Self-interest or fulfillment is the attitude or act of doing what is best for oneself, sometimes without thinking of others. For example, Alex offered to buy the poor old lady’s house to help her, but he acted in his own self-interest by offering her a small amount of money for it. People who may have seen his act may look at him as a moral person. But then, he does what he think is right because of the reward that he may derive from it. It is not bad to help other people but if you are only helping him because you have something to get from him is bad. You should always think of other people’s sake.

Divine Command is based on the belief that there is God who is fair and reasonable, and who rewards man who is righteous and punishes him who is an evil doer. Many people around the world believe that doing good to others will bring you to heaven when the time of death comes. For example, A Mother told her son not to cheat during exam so that he will not go to hell of fire and be burn there. He should study very hard and not cheat so that he will go to heaven or paradise with God and beautiful angels. The child will be moral and will not cheat because he fear the punishment of being burn in hell and want the reward of being with God.

Common Interest could be one of the reasons why man wants to be moral. As a moral...
