Reaction Paper (SONA’09)

Since it was the ninth and the last STATE OF THE NATION ADDRESS of our President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo for 2009 and was delivered at the joint session of the Congress of the Philippines on July 27, 2009, she has enumerated all her undertakings with her long term projects that she has prepared, build up and completed whether it is on health, education, sanitary and environment and other major concerns of the Filipinos. In spite of the fact that many people pass judgment on her and confer negative opinions on her as a president she has become very tough and thorough kind of person.

On her 10 point agenda last 2008 it has been said that her administration would build up Clark and Subic as the best international service and logistics centers in the region. I believe that she achieve this because she has said on the SONA that Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway is one of the prime example of building better roads and create wealth as the flagship of the Subic-Clark Corridor. She has also enumerated the development on education such as increase in number of school buildings, number of teachers, government scholars and the plan to increase college to five years; two pre-university and three professional years. I am not in favor in additional year for College. For private universities, these will mean additional courses which may not be relevant in the profession. What should be strengthened is the quality by monitoring the performance of the universities in the licensing exams for professionals. With this monitoring, the universities which do not convey quality education should be promptly stopped

I have also remembered what she has said about those who yearn for the position of presidency and I would like to quote it. “If you really want something done, just do it. Do it hard, do it well. Don’t pussyfoot. Don’t pander. And don’t say bad words in public”. Anything that we...
