Abstract

Academic Success among Children in Fatherless Homes, is a discussion that will be around for a while, without a possible end. This literature review looks at different factors that lead to fatherless homes. Statistics are presented that show the staggering numbers surrounding this topic. The academic success shows that the odds can be beat with the proper people in place to support the children and continue to encourage them to push forward. I will also look at how the roles of each parent affects the household and if there is a difference in if the child stays with the same sex parent.

Academic Success among Children in Fatherless Homes

This literature review looks at the academic success of children in fatherless homes. In searching for data to support the statement, I was led to a theme that arises in each of the articles that were read. What was the cause of the fatherless home? Many factors contribute to the father not being in the home. Whether it was death, divorce, the child born out of wedlock, or the father just not wanting to be in the home, all the articles stated that there is a need for the father in the home. The different studies showed higher test scores from children in two parent homes or children that have their father involved in their lives. Not to say that without the father in the home, that the child cannot be successful. There is also an article that shows that single mothers who really wanted more for their children and who put forth the effort for a better life for their children, that the children showed significant improvement in their academics.
