Kudler Fine Foods first open its doors in 1998 by Kathy Kudler she wanted to open a store that had a wide selection of gourmet product to choose from. Kathy Kudler had a vision and her passion for gourmet foods made it a reality she has opened a total of three stores in La Jolla, Del Mar, and Encinitas, San Diego. Kudler Fine Foods is a gourmet store that includes fresh bakery and pastries, fresh produce, meat, seafood, dairy product all the specialty ingredients need to complete a gourmet meal (Kudler Fine Foods, 2007). Kudler Fine Foods is now planning to start buying organic produce from local growers because of this; Kudler will need to make operational changes. One of the areas Kudler Fine Foods will need to evaluate supply chain and conduct quality control review.

For Kudler to be successful they will have to create an effective operational strategy. We will know look at how the supply chain will be effected by the new implementation. Supply chain is described in our textbook as a picture of how organizations are linked together as viewed from a particular company (Chase, Jacobs, & Aguilano, 2006). According to About.com the elements of supply chain are the customer, planning, purchasing, inventory, production and transportation (M. Murray, 2010). The customer initiates the chain when they purchases an item or requests a service. Planning is the process to meet the customer request. Inventory raw materials stored until they are required for production which is the end product. Transportation is the final element when the good is received by the customer. Kudler Fine Foods goal is to have good organizational skills by using minimum inventory since produce is perishable.
