McDonald’s Corporation Case

McDonald’s Corporation is one of the most popular and valuable brands in the fast food industry. It has 31000 restaurants serving 52 million people in more than 100 countries. Those numbers impress. It is also one of biggest employers in the United States, with more that 1.5 million workers worldwide. This company is expanding continuously.

Only 40% of the restaurants are actually company-owned. The rest are franchises, run by independent owners who pay a fee of between $600,000 and $1,000,000 for a franchise.

Employees at McDonald’s fall into three groups - restaurant workers, corporate staff, and franchise owners. Average crew size at McDonald’s restaurant is from 44 to 40 people. Also McDonald’s gives job for minorities – disable people, old people, woman etc. One third of employees are part-time workers. Their wages are low, but still higher than minimal. Employees are offered a plethora of benefits and opportunities for both financial rewards and recognition.

It’s obvious, that HR system in McDonald’s is well-developed. It’s a huge company, and I’m sure hr managers spend a huge amount of time analyzing HR system and constantly trying to improve it. McDonald’s offers good career opportunities for people. From being a crew-member employee can become a manager. More of the staff of McDonald’s is promoted internally instead of taking people from outside. So most of managers of the company used to be just workers on the kitchen, and that experience make them understand the process of work, the client and client’s need very good. The staff is provided with proper training and classes for a particular destination.

McDonald’s has a good training system. Employee training at McDonald's is highly structured. In order to gain skills and knowledge managers must go through each level and attend Hamburger University.
