Final Assignment: Part A

As the chief editor of the city’s largest newspaper I have an obligation to the public and the new paper however my first obligation is to the truth .It is my job to see that sources are confirmed. My responsibilities include verifying facts, dates, and statistics and then deciding which stories are newsworthy and make sure they are published. I have an obligation to make sure that the information I publish is accurate It’s my job to make sure the assistant editors do not miss anything before it is published. That’s why I feel I must take responsibility for the scandal that is about to hit the morning paper. How could this have happened? How am I going to report this scandal? I can not blame it on deadline pressures and long, erratic work hour because I knew that this would be part of the daily routine, and that the job may cause stress, fatigue, or burnout.

Unfortunately as a result of the changes in the role of media in delivering news to the public one of my papers top reporters has been fabricating his sources and making up facts .We stared out together as reporters at our home town paper. Back then we both were dedicated to telling the truth staying true to our conscience. I realize that the need for reporters to write sensational stories that will appeal to the public and to deliver the news quickly is putting reporters under enormous pressure. Although I thought after all these years, winning the Pulitzer Prize and all the awards he has won He would be the last person to fabricate sources and facts. He violated fair use by coping online news stories and it looks like there will be a charge of copyright or trademark infringement in his future.

In any case, the truth is the paper does not want me to do anything other than reprimand him and put him on the celebrity column for a couple of weeks. They said that the best reporters are the dishonest ones and I should overlook the fact that his dishonesty has been...
