The first Scholarly Journal that I derived information from for my own counseling knowledge, and further intell on the important characteristics that make up a successful counselor, was insight. Insight is a very important therapeutic aim and characteristic that allows the patients to his/her strengths and competence, and to be more functional in his/her life. Most of the counseling approaches the gain insight for client as a necessity for the counseling process. Insight is an abstract term, which points out one’s gaining of new knowledge and awareness about his/her strengths and competence, which he/she did not have before.

The author stated that since insight gain is an inner process, it is possible to understand whether the client gained it or not only through observing his/her behaviors. The author went on to explain how there is a close relationship between insight and action, and in the process of psychological processing, insight has to be taken into the same consideration as action is taken. The author believes that insight can be can improve as a spontaneous or gradual awareness. There are a lot of different factors that can effect the development of insight, and it being functional in the clients life.

I think that the author learned a lot about insight because of the relationship to action it portrays amongst his clients. It didn’t say much about the learning process from the author, but by the way insight was involved in his counseling style, he realized early on how vital insight is in the journey of lide that the client is sharing with the therapist.

The second scholarly article that I read referred to respect as one of the vital characteristics deemed as essential for growth as a therapist, and needed to be present for the client to grow as well.
