Foodtown Inc. is looking to expand its business to the island of Kava. This expansion will help bring in new employment opportunities and growth potential to the people of Kava as well as for Foodtown Inc. Foodtown will have to look at how the company will be affecting the environment and how they can help with the natural disasters that are common on the island. Another important issue will be the effect their employees will have on the native people as well the effect it will have on their employees brought in from overseas. Foodtown Inc’s main goal will be to help the people of Kava economically and help increase their global market.

The island of Kava has to endure many natural disasters annually; these include tidal waves, typhoons, tsunamis, tornados, floods, and other natural disasters. Foodtown, Inc. has started to work with the local government to help bring in ways to help protect their investment and help the people of Kava. Their first objective is to install an early warning emergency system that would allow the people enough time to evacuate to a safe place for their protection. One system that is being considered is the tsunami warning system (TWS). “A tsunami warning system is a system to detect tsunamis and issue warnings to prevent the loss of life and property. It consists of two equally important components: a network of sensors to detect tsunamis and a communications infrastructure to timely alarms to permit evacuation of coastal areas.”(Smiley, 2008) By improving the advance warning system, Foodtown Inc. can help protect it investment on the island and help protect its most valuable asset, the employees.

Another issue for Foodtown, Inc. will be the health of their employees. Kava does not have the infrastructure built to handle major outbreaks of diseases. Some of the concerns will be HIV/Aids and the avian flu....
